“Unknown to Dante, there is a 45th circle of Hell known as ‘Twitter.’ It used to take 140 steps to get there, but after the expansion of residents it is now 280 paces to reach your destination. To be sure, calling this beloved social media network the 45th level of Hell is quite an accusation, and I must support it with evidence. Well, these days I should at least try to support it with evidence. Come to think of it, who needs evidence when I have Twitter? Alas, I will do my best to use logic. “Let’s begin. I will list the level of Dante’s Inferno and its quick description. I will follow in italics with my evidence. Then we can decide if Twitter really does represent the sum of all sins.
- Limbo — This is the first level of Hell. Virtuous pagans live here. They are not sinful enough to warrant damnation. There are plenty of people in Limbo on Twitter. These are the twitter users who admire from afar. They do not post. They do not like. They do not comment. They sure as heck don’t “re-tweet” anything. They are Monthly Active Users (MAUs for those with an affinity for Wall Street nomenclature) and virtuous. They do not swim in the snark infested waters. But they are still on the site. They want to delete the app, but like watching the Police chases on the local news, they can’t bear to think they missed anything.” […]
